Carving the Abbeygate in Bury St. Edmunds – Wood carving [ASMR]

I’ve lived just outside Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk almost my whole life and The Abbeygate is a stand out landmark in the town. I decided to do this wood carving because my home means a lot to me and there’s some interesting history behind this gate.

It took around 15 hours to carve this piece and then another hour or so painting it. I used a mixture of white spirit and polyurethane to seal the wood carving and then thinned down oil paints were painted over the top. It’s made from lime wood.
