Celebrity Social Media Round-Up for October 13, 2020

Gal Gadot’s “Imagine” video feels like it happened one hundred years ago but really, it’s only been a few months since celebrities decided to sing earnestly into the camera and cause a tidal wave of second-hand embarrassment. I acknowledge that I’m not this video’s target audience (I hate the song) but I think that’s the problem: there was no target audience. Gal’s goal, as she told Nancy Jo Sales at Vanity Fair, was to spread “love and light.” If you are a very online person, you know “love and light” is an automatic eyeroll. It’s a phrase Housewives and third-rate anti-vaxxer wellness influencers use. So from the jump, this video was doomed. The more interesting story is that none of the celebrities realized what they were setting themselves up for and, left to their own devices, this is what they think fans want.

Jennifer Aniston probably didn’t mean to do ASMR but this is very soothing.

Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake have yet to confirm the birth of their second child through social media or an official outlet (like PEOPLE). I think it’s coming – maybe Halloween. But I wanted to talk about these two posts because they are explicitly political: one is about voting, the other is her endorsement of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Back in 2019, Jessica joined noted anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy to appeal to California lawmakers about a bill that limits exemptions from vaccinations (read more on it here). At the time, JB said she’s not against vaccination, but she is about families making “educated decisions,” which is an anti-vaxx talking point. At the time this all happened, the anti-vaxx community clung to Jessica as being one of them because they love support from famous people. Now those same people feel betrayed by her endorsement. I wonder if, with hindsight, she realizes that working with Robert might not have been the best choice.

Kaley Cuoco and Zosia Mamet got so tight working together on The Flight Attendant they got matching tattoos (flip to see the group shot and a closeup of the tattoo). There’s no release date yet but I’m very into the premise (a flight attendant wakes up in a hotel room next to a dead body, with no recollection of the night before) and clearly the cast and crew is passionate about the project. Do you like your coworkers enough to share ink?

Do you think Steve Martin is in the handcrafted jewellery, framed prints, custom stationery or holiday décor section?

Like many families, the Baldwins have different political opinions: Hailey Bieber will be voting for Biden/Harris and her dad will be voting for the current person in office. This is not unusual but it probably makes for some interesting dinner table conversations. The good thing for Hailey is if she ever gets tired of arguing with her dad about it, she can put Uncle Alec on the phone because you know the Baldwin brothers have years of practice fighting with each other.

Love this Solange cover – the bubble bath contrasted with the black boots (they are Telfar, for those looking).

“Some days I am on top of mountains. Some days I am weary. Some days I smile and laugh in ways I didn’t know I could. Sometimes I grieve all of the loss, looking for pillars or anchors to hold on to. Some days I see so much promise in my future despite the chaos around me because I woke up a Black woman with this spirit in my heart. If I move, I am not running. If I move, it is by choice. I feel good knowing that I surrendered and found answers in my stillness.” At the link in our bio, read #SolangeKnowles’ reflections on stillness, joy, and the year that changed everything for our fall digital cover story. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Photographer: @naimagreen ⁣⁣ Hair: @kendalldorsey1⁣⁣ Makeup: @mmiiggss ⁣⁣ ⁣Entertainment Director: @whatisnojan⁣ Fashion Features Director: @kerrypieri⁣ Fashion Editor: @kiadesireegoosby⁣ Accessories Director: @kathyglee⁣ Set Design: @tfer21 ⁣⁣ Shoot Assistant: @saintcurt⁣⁣ Stylist Assistant: @juliocesardelgato⁣⁣ Special Thanks: @homeunion⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Solange (@saintrecords) wears @charlotteknowleslondon, @telfarglobal, @coperni, @sophiebuhai, @area, @brothervellies, @phlemuns, @barragan, and @christopherkane

I am beyond obsessed with the Dominic West story and so far, this is my favourite tweet by Hunter Harris. Don’t see how anything could top it.
