Afternoon Rain and thunder sounds in a typical small alley of Diano Castello. The tingles coming from a metal street lamp produce a gentle ASMR.
The small village of Diano Castello, located on the north west of the Ligurian coast at 135 mt. above sea level, still retains its medieval structure to this day. Enclosed by city walls, it is a maze of narrow alleyways and small sqaures. In the eleventh century, it became property of the Marquis of Clavesana and remained such until 1228, when it joined the Republic of Genoa.
Originally surrounded by city walls, this village was the fortress of nearby coastal towns. When pirates stopped plundering the coast, much of the population left the hills and moved down, and Diano Castello lost its supremacy as a strategic location, gaining though in peace and focusing its economy on agriculture.

The town hall is located next to the majestic Palazzo Quaglia, a magnificent 15th century mansion consisting of an embattled tower, once a jail.
Fine examples of the Romanesque style are the Oratory of San Giovanni and the Church of Assunta, well worth a visit.
Another interesting attraction goes by the name of “lone”, ancient underground water cisterns.
