Phoebe Bridgers, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and known culture vulture towards the unliving community, stopped by the set of Showtime’s hilarious new variety show Ziwe to chat allyship, ASMR, and negro spirituals.
If you’re unfamiliar with the series, it’s hosted by a comedian named Ziwe who asks brash questions about race to elicit a reaction out of sometimes uncomfortable guests.
Ziwe asks Bridgers, who appeared at the Grammys in a bedazzled skeleton outfit, the question on everyone’s lips. Are the skeleton costumes the “Kyoto” singer’s way of appropriating dead culture?
“Yeah, I apologize to everybody dead who I offended by my skeleton costume and ghost costume,” Bridgers said directly into the camera.
She also performs Ally ASMR, whispering statements like “I will do my own emotional labor,” and “I will never get married on a plantation.”
