Real Time Plein Air Drawing | ASMR Pencil Sounds – No Talking

Ivy Lily ASMR

Real time plein air drawing: ASMR pencil sounds, no talking. ASMR pencil drawing outdoors by the lake + birds chirping in the background, no talking. *Wear headphones to hear the sounds more clearly.*

I’m sketching a section of the trunk of one of the big birch trees beside me. I chose it because of the polypores and the rolled pieces of bark that made it look interesting.

TIMESTAMPS
0:00 The video starts by me flipping through my sketchbook to find an empty page.
1:00 I’m then setting the sketchbook on an easel and starting to sketch with a mechnical pencil. The tree I’m drawing is a bit further away so I took a photo of it on my phone and using that as the reference.
3:00 I’m using regular H – HB pencils to shade the tree.
10:34 I use the woodless graphite pencil for heavier shading.
16:33 I’m showing you the final sketch.

I filmed this #asmrnotalking video in the beginning of August and there weren’t many birds singing anymore so I overlayed bird sounds I recorded earlier this summer on the more quiet parts. I was lucky with the bugs this time, though. There were no mosquitoes, only a few flies. Even the wasps left me alone, even though they’ve been very abundant this year.

Filming ASMR drawing videos outside is always a bit of a struggle (you need enough light, no wind and a quiet environment) compared to filming inside. From the last session (of filming the soft pastel drawings outside earlier this summer) I learned not to set the microphone on the same table I’m drawing on, because the mic picks up every wobble of the table. So, this time I set the mic on a bench and a bucket closeby.

However, I forgot to bring my tripod and I had to balance the camera on a pile of wood pieces and bricks on the table I was drawing and the camera angle and focus might be a bit awkward throughout the video. It’s hard to see what I’m actually drawing until later on in the video, when the drawing has more contrast.

What is ASMR? Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a euphoric experience characterized by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine, precipitating relaxation. ASMR is most commonly triggered by specific acoustic and visual stimuli including the content of some digital videos.

If you have problems falling asleep, watching ASMR videos might help you fall asleep. Or if you feel stressed, they could help you relax. For some people ASMR is triggered by ambient sounds and watching people work quietly.
