SUR Botanics – Jessica Zhu Talks

ASMR has become a very popular activity in recent years, becoming a way for people to relieve stress and experience the ‘brain tingles’ sensation associated with it. Jessica Zhu, the founder of SUR Botanics, is pioneering with a way for people to enhance their ASMR experience using aromatherapy.

Below, Jessica answered some questions about the company.

Hi Jessica, what inspired you to start SUR Botanics?

Hi! It all started from my personal experience of trying to use ASMR to help me unwind and reduce my stress levels. You see, at the time I had just had a baby and was trying to juggle my career + deal with the pandemic all at once, so I sought out ASMR after hearing about it from some friends.

However, I found that ASMR wasn’t really giving me the full tingling sensation that my friends described. I started experimenting with aromatherapy to see if it would help, and I eventually created a blend that worked for me.

Eventually, some of my friends wanted me to create the blend for them to use, and I realised I had a business on my hands. I partnered with an old classmate from John Hopkins University to start creating some ASMR aromatherapy blends with a focus on making them high-quality, simple, and effective.

We decided to call the business SUR Botanics because we want our customers to SURrender their stress and enjoy the full potential of ASMR by leveraging our aromatherapy products.

What specific essential oil blends do you offer?

Our flagship product Tinglicious is the original formula I created to help me experience the signature ‘tingles’ associated with ASMR.

We also have developed 2 other blends, Just Relax and A Thousand Z’s.

Just Relax is designed with afternoon reset and relaxation in mind. A Thousand Z’s has been blended to help users get a more restful sleep when their body craves it.

Each of our essentials oils is made with premium-quality organic ingredients identical to what I use in my own diffuser at home.

Do you use all-natural ingredients?

Our products are small-batch 100% organic essential oils distilled straight from the source without any additives or extras.

Do you provide any other products?

Yes! To make things easier for our customers, we offer 2 types of diffusers that can be purchased for use with our essential oils. This includes the SUR USB Mini Ultrasonic Aroma Diffuser and the SUR Marble Grain Cube Ultrasonic Aroma Diffuser.

The Marble Grain Cube is super stylish and a little more heavy-duty than the USB powered Mini Diffuser (it can carry 200ml rather than 80ml for the Mini Diffuser). Both work great, and we have bundle deals where you’ll get the diffuser plus our entire range of essential oils.

Something I’m very proud of is the fact that we have environmentally-friendly recyclable packaging for our products.
