Workshop Video Making 60 SO239 Relaxing No Talking or Music #ASMR

DX Commander

This is another in my ASMR Ham Radio series. This time I make up 60 x SO239 assemblies. I prep the wire, strip[ the ends, solder to the SO239, apply hot glue. Add two sets of glue lined heat shrink, strip the end and fit fork connectors. Well, it’s what I do! Callum M0MCX.

This is a perfect example of one of the things England is famous for – the Cottage Industry. Good-O!

  3. Just a quick question to man cleverer than me – at the moment I am a 2E0, can't see the need to take the full licence, as far as I can see the only advantage is being able to use 400w – I live on very high ground, have a great antenna, work the world quite happily on 50w (ish) – However back to the question – if I dropped down to 10w, am I still permitted to use my M6 callsign ? – for example to call QRP – thanks

  4. Another great video Cal, time to re-order more …………………………. tea?

  12. Loves these Callum!

  13. Rod Little says:

Nice, just a small glimpse at how much time/effort/experience and detail goes each antenna

  14. Antenna porn, could watch it all day.

  15. Ed Wymer says:

they make a Sheet Paper Cutter that may make it easier when cutting all of that wire…
just make a stop point and you can chop the wire at lightning speed.

  16. Ed Wymer says:

    nice work shop though.

  17. You do not have a fume extractor or a fan?
Love the pissing sheep at the end!!

  18. Caleb Munch says:

Beuatiful work, Callum. It's nice to see you taking pride in your work! I am sure lots of people don't realize how much time it takes to put it all together, looks good tho!

  19. Cal, don't you have some background noise going on normally in the workshop? I always have a radio on (2m, HF, AM or FM) making some sort of noise.

  20. Best show in town…..I like for you to test or try your DXC on 2.meters. I made one and followed your instructions for 20 and 40 meters. I checked the SWR on 2 meters it was less 1:5. And it works great and hitting far off repeaters. Great videos especially when your are working on something….. way to much talking on those other channels.

  21. Allen James says:

Hey Cal, Im STILL furloughed at the moment. If you ever need a volunteer to give a hand, give me a shout please. Im bored out of my skull mate.

  22. MI6XGZ jon says:

you dont charge enough mate, my back would be killing me after that length of time! fair play on your quality control though 🙂

  26. Aleziss says:

Aaaaaah ! It sounded just perfect ! Awesome video ! I like those so much, just the shop sounds as it is. By the way, have you ever try another type of tip on your soldering iron ? Yours is a good brand of iron but with a "flat screw driver" type tip, you would have a way better thermal mass than those conical type tips. Again, so happy you are making those type of "silent" videos now ! Good job !

  27. R Hamilton says:

Quality in motion. Enjoyed it Callum! 73, WB4HAM

  28. C W says:

I'm surprised you've got the will to live after that lot 😨

  29. alze says:

One of those are mine o/ cant wait !!

  30. Pete Snipe says:

Im not going to be sheepish about it, the ruminant making eye contact whilst urinating will stay with me for some time.

  31. kc9cuk says:

Nice quality let the solder fly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Jake P says:

    play at 1.5 speed… 🙂

  33. paulkazjack says:

Good stuff but please secure the wood.

  34. A day of R & R for you. Callum, do you sell those separately ? I could use a couple of assemblies. I have a couple of coax cables that I have weatherproofed the connectors. and I just swap out the connectors. Easier that way then to have to retape the connector every time.

  35. Wow…. Nice! Really puts into perspective the "One-man-band"…..Thanks for all you do! 73 – N1UI

  36. Three thumbs down for the dirty teapot already… Some people.

  37. I can see you put alot work into DX Commander. looks at the rate you are going you could use a he;per. Just wish I that much room,, I can see that it would ake a good radio room

  38. Paul Steels says:

    Good Work Calum
Passed my foundation today using your foundation exam videos
I was the person that sent you the engineers vice I made
Putting together the multi band antenna this weekend

  39. I have never fully used a bobin of solder and only once fully used a Biro refill, as of this moment. 🙂
I am an X Electrical Engineer and using the proper Crimper instead of those Side Cutters would not need the Soldering.
Three cups of T and no Loo, Super hero :-). Good video thanks. Nice Manger scene at the end.

  40. Its nice being able to "work" and actually see a product!! Not just numbers on a sheet or statistics. And just remember the products you make go all over the world. Each one has your fingerprints and not those of a mindless factory worker!! Keep it up!

  41. Brent Crier says:

I've tried a few strippers. Before I continue I should clarify wire strippers. 🙂 Never really had luck with that type. Curious what brand are those you using?

  42. I could have watched that for hours. Poetry in action. Very nice.
