Covid is now England’s 24th major cause of death.

According to fresh numbers, Covid-19 plummeted to the 24th greatest cause of mortality in England last month.

According to the Office for National Statistics, coronavirus caused 333 deaths in May, accounting for 0.9 percent of all deaths recorded in England (ONS).

Ischemic heart disease was the top cause of mortality (3,780 fatalities), followed by dementia and Alzheimer’s disease (3,711 deaths).

From November 2020 to February 2021, Covid-19 was the main cause of mortality in England.

It dropped from first to third position in March, then to ninth place in April, and finally to 24th place last month.

The ONS also reported that the age-standardised mortality rate (ASMR) of Covid-19-related deaths in England fell for the fourth month in a row to 7.1 deaths per 100,000 people, the lowest rate since August 2020.

Since August 2020, deaths in England have been below the five-year average (10.7 percent lower) for the second month in a row, according to the ONS.

Covid-19 was the 31st most common cause of death in Wales in May, accounting for 15 deaths, or 0.6 percent of all deaths.

The top cause of death (300 fatalities) was ischemic heart disease, followed by dementia and Alzheimer’s disease (212).

From November 2020 to February 2021, Covid-19 was the biggest cause of mortality in Wales, ranking third in March and 18th in April.

According to the ONS, the ASMR of deaths caused by Covid-19 in Wales has dropped to 5.2 deaths per 100,000 persons, the lowest rate since the pandemic began.
