Gnarled.. Open Cup Pour + Gilly Kube Card Slide + Shmears asmr

Gail Burstyn Life In Splatters

Gnarled..Open Cup.. Gilly Kube Card Slide and Shmears..This painting was done on a 20 by 24 in canvas. I used Rust-Oleum Metallic Accents in dark chocolate brown to place a puddle for the open cup pour. I then layered my paints usually with black between them. The colours I used are gold, copper, metallic turquoise, and champagne gold.

I start to tilt and distribute the paints and let the cup float across the surface. This creates beautiful layering of the colours. as I stretch you can see cells coming up.. The paints combining into a dance of colours coming to life.

I love how this became a tree..
I have them on my mind after seeing all the lovely work lately..particularly by
Jessica Nisbet Gibson and Mariann Irvin..

I start with some shmears with a palette knife and then comes the Gilly Rice Kube 3D card slides.. using Aussie floetrol mixed with titanium white by Amsterdam and black oxide by Amsterdam. From here on it is working on composition making flowing lines that appeal and create movement and depth in a piece. I didn’t see the tree at first but having seen some beautiful tree swipe paintings done recently .. it must have been in my head, because when I turned the canvas the other way …very clearly I had a beautiful gnarled tree in a mystical Forest.
